Year 4 Autumn Term Round-Up at Windrush Valley Prep School

As we reach the end of our first full term, it is the perfect opportunity to reflect on the hard work, dedication, and achievements of our Year 4 pupils. From academic successes to sporting triumphs, this term has been filled with enthusiasm, perseverance, and exciting learning experiences.

Confidence in Public Speaking

The term began with the much-anticipated English Speaking Board (ESB) assessments. Each pupil delivered a confident presentation on a topic of their choice, ranging from Taylor Swift to the life of a cassowary! It was wonderful to see the children not only speaking passionately about their interests but also supporting their classmates throughout the process. Their efforts were recognised by the assessor, and their results, graded Merit and above, were a testament to their hard work and commitment.

Engaging with Anglo-Saxon History

History lessons have brought the world of the Anglo-Saxons to life. Pupils explored the fascinating discovery of the Sutton Hoo treasures and wrote their own newspaper reports about this incredible historical find. The class reader, Anglo-Saxon Boy, has provided further insight into the lives of Anglo-Saxon warriors, helping pupils to immerse themselves in the era. This cross-curricular approach continued in Geography, where pupils studied the key features of Anglo-Saxon settlements and compared them to modern communities.

Hands-On Science Investigations

Science this term has been full of discovery, with a focus on states of matter. Pupils have enjoyed hands-on investigations, using scientific apparatus to explore the properties of solids, liquids, and gases. Practical experiments have encouraged them to develop key scientific skills, such as observation, prediction, and recording results, making learning both engaging and interactive.

Sporting Success

Beyond the classroom, Year 4 pupils have had plenty of opportunities to develop their skills on the sports field. Many have taken part in competitive sports fixtures, demonstrating excellent teamwork and sportsmanship. The class has worked hard to refine their rugby and hockey skills, bringing energy and determination to every match. It has been fantastic to see their confidence and ability grow throughout the term.

As we head into the next term, Year 4 can be incredibly proud of their achievements so far. Their dedication to learning, enthusiasm for new challenges, and commitment to teamwork set a strong foundation for continued success in the months ahead.
