The school’s first major sporting events of this calendar year have taken place. In keeping with our rich sporting heritage, the various teams of Windrush Valley Private School Oxfordshire have achieved some outstanding results.

Football

The season kicked off with a superb win against Christ Church, Oxford for our Under 11s footballers.

This win was closely followed by a strong team performance at the annual Independent School’s Association inter-school 5-aside football tournament in Mill Hill, London. After an early start on a crisp sunny day, a stadium full of excited and enthusiastic children from 32 schools awaited us.

Our team included a squad of 8 players from Year 5 and Year 6. Playing against many other  strong school teams we secured 4 consecutive wins. The fifth match was a real edge-of-the-seater, finishing in a  4-4 draw. We lost the sixth game by a narrow margin. Despite this, our school’s amazing team spirit meant that heads did not go down. As a result, Windrush Valley Private School Oxfordshire finished top of their group and went forward to the knockout rounds. We didn’t quite make it to the final, but our team should be immensely proud of their success.  A huge thank you to our pupils who achieved so much and represented the school impeccably.

Swimming gala

Teams and individuals from Windrush Valley Private School Oxfordshire also recently competed in a prestigious inter-school swimming gala. Every pupil and team that took part excelled and achieved outstanding results. As always, all represented the school with great honour and pride. The event was topped off by one of our teams winning the 4 x 25m freestyle relay.

Looking ahead – netball and cross country

Our next competitive sporting events this term, involves pupils from Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 competing at the Independent Schools Association cross country championship. Our pupils always do very well at this annual event. Therefore, it is much anticipated, with training well under way in the hope that they qualify for the National Finals in late March.

Netball also takes centre stage, with competitive matches for our U11 team (Year 6) at the netball festival organised and hosted by Sibford School.
