An Inspiring Term for Year 3 Class

The recent term has been an incredibly active and enriching time for Year 3 class of Windrush Valley Prep School, filled with a wide array of activities from assessments and creative arts to exciting field trips and sports, our pupils have shown remarkable enthusiasm and dedication.

Performing Arts and Community Involvement

This term, the children in Year 3 had multiple opportunities to shine in the performing arts. They delighted audiences with their May Dancing at New Beaconsfield Hall, where their coordination and rhythm were on full display. Additionally, they participated in another church assembly, showcasing their singing talents and contributing to the community spirit of our school. These performances not only highlighted their artistic abilities but also helped to build their confidence in front of an audience.

Curriculum Enrichment Week

Curriculum Enrichment Week was a standout event this term, offering our pupils the chance to explore their creativity and expand their horizons. One of the highlights was the trip to the MAD Museum in Stratford-Upon-Avon. The children were fascinated by the extraordinary inventions on display and enthusiastically tackled a challenging quiz that tested their observational skills and understanding of the exhibits.

Back at school, the creative energy continued with a watercolour lesson from Mrs. Gibson, which allowed the pupils to experiment with different techniques and develop their artistic skills. Another exciting activity was the spray-painting session outside, where our budding artists had the opportunity to channel their inner Banksy. The results were impressive, with vibrant and imaginative works that the children were proud to display.

The class also explored the world of Tinga Tinga art, inspired by the works of Edward Tingatinga. They studied the distinctive patterns, colours, and styles characteristic of this art form and then applied what they learned to create their own Tinga Tinga-inspired paintings. This project was a fantastic way for the pupils to learn about different cultural art forms while expressing their own creativity. They also had the chance to work with clay, sculpting animal figures that further enhanced their understanding of art and design.

Sports Day and Physical Education

Sports Day was another significant event, where Year 3 pupils showcased their sporting skills and teamwork. Despite the heat of the day, they participated with great enthusiasm, competing in various events and supporting their house teams. The children demonstrated the physical skills they have developed throughout the year and enjoyed the camaraderie and healthy competition that Sports Day brings.

Academic Endeavours

In addition to the creative and physical activities, Year 3 has been working hard academically. In history, they delved into the Roman invasion of Britain and studied the iconic figure of Boudicca, exploring her impact and legacy. Geography lessons focused on comparing daylight hours between different regions, understanding the water cycle, and learning about where the world’s water gathers.

In English, the pupils have been honing their grammar skills, with a focus on possessive pronouns, homophones, and the structure of sentences. They engaged in creative writing, crafting stories about genies and lamps, and adventures involving messages in bottles. These activities not only reinforced their understanding of grammar but also encouraged imaginative storytelling.

Maths lessons this term concentrated on statistics, where the children learned to create and interpret bar charts, further developing their analytical and mathematical skills.

A Well-Rounded Experience

Overall, this term has been a perfect blend of academic rigor, creative exploration, and physical activity for our Year 3 pupils. They have demonstrated resilience, creativity, and enthusiasm in all their endeavours, making it a truly successful and fulfilling term. We look forward to building on these experiences in the terms to come, as we continue to support and nurture the growth of our pupils in all areas of their development throughout their time at Windrush Valley Prep School.
