A Term of Successes and Growth for Year 4
As the term draws to a close, it’s a perfect time to reflect on the many achievements and experiences that have made this period both memorable and rewarding for our Year 4 pupils. From sporting events to artistic exploration, the children have truly excelled in every aspect of their school life.
Kwik Cricket Tournament at Kitebrook
The term kicked off with a thrilling start at the Kwik Cricket Tournament held at Kitebrook. Our mixed team from Windrush Valley Prep School faced stiff competition, but they played with remarkable skill and, most importantly, displayed outstanding sportsmanship throughout. The match was highly competitive, and although the results were close, it was the teamwork and camaraderie shown by our pupils that stood out the most. Their determination and positive attitude on the field were a credit to the school, setting a strong tone for the term ahead.
Assessment Week and Academic Focus
Following the excitement of the cricket tournament, Year 4 shifted their focus to Assessment Week. This period was a chance for the children to demonstrate their academic progress and apply the knowledge they’ve accumulated over the year. The children approached their assessments with maturity and focus, showing just how much they’ve grown academically. Their hard work during this time has been commendable, and it was encouraging to see how each pupil has developed their understanding and skills across all subjects.
Curriculum Enrichment Week: A Dive into Art
One of the standout moments of the term was undoubtedly Curriculum Enrichment Week. This year, the theme was Art and Artists, and Year 4 immersed themselves in the fascinating world of Salvador Dalí, the eminent Spanish surrealist. The children spent the week exploring Dalí’s distinctive style, learning about his influences, and recreating some of his most famous works. This deep dive into surrealism allowed the children to express their creativity and think outside the box, producing some truly outstanding pieces of art.
In addition to studying Dalí, the children participated in a series of art workshops led by talented local artists. These workshops included sessions on graffiti art, watercolour techniques, and illustration. The hands-on experience not only broadened their artistic skills but also revealed hidden talents among the children. It was wonderful to see the enthusiasm and pride with which the children approached their art, and the results were nothing short of impressive.
Sports Day and Chiltern Charity Event
The term wouldn’t have been complete without the annual Sports Day, where Year 4 once again showcased their athletic abilities. The children participated in various events, demonstrating their skills and sportsmanship in what turned out to be a day full of energy and excitement. Their commitment to their teams and the spirit of friendly competition made the day enjoyable for all involved.
In the midst of all this, the Chiltern House charity event provided a fun and lively break from the regular routine. Supporting the RNLI, the event featured creative costumes, welly wanging, sea shanties, and even a few water fights. The children’s enthusiasm for the cause and their willingness to get involved in the activities made the afternoon both fun and meaningful.
Looking Ahead
Year 4 has been a delight to teach this year. The children have grown not just academically but also in their confidence, creativity, and sense of community. As they prepare to move on to Year 5, they do so with a solid foundation of skills and experiences that will serve them well in their continuing academic journey. We are incredibly proud of all they have achieved and look forward to seeing them continue to thrive in the coming year.
