Year 3 Half Term Round-up

we reflect on the past term, it’s clear that Year 3 has been a whirlwind of activity and learning, filled with memorable experiences and academic achievements. Despite the wet weather, our pupils have thrived in various subjects and extracurricular activities, showcasing their talents and enthusiasm.

Sports and Physical Education

This term, our young athletes braved the rain to participate in numerous sports fixtures. Their dedication was evident in the fantastic Inter-House football tournament held on Wednesday, where their football skills were on full display. The competitive spirit and teamwork demonstrated by the children were truly commendable. See our Windrush Valley Prep School – Sports Results blog.

Mathematics Adventures

In maths, we have focused on practical learning experiences. The students have engaged in measuring perimeters and determining the mass and capacity of different objects. This hands-on approach has helped solidify their understanding of these concepts. Additionally, Timetables Rockstars has become a favourite, making learning times tables fun and engaging. We’ve also progressed in our column method work, tackling higher numbers, and delved into word problems, enhancing the students’ problem-solving skills.

Inspiring English Lessons

Our English lessons have been particularly exciting this term, especially following our trip to the Story Museum. This outing was a highlight, featuring themed rooms like the Winnie the Pooh room, where we played Pooh Sticks, and The Snowman room, with a flying snowman overhead. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe room was especially magical, as we pushed through real fur coats to find ourselves in Narnia. The inspiration from this trip fueled our story writing sessions. The students wrote imaginative stories about Going Back in Time and recently penned tales about A Magic Egg, sparked by an Easter egg hunt in the playground.

Scientific Explorations

In science, our focus has been on flowers and their fertilisation process, emphasising the crucial role bees play in our ecosystem. This theme led us to explore the work of botanists. The pupils created beautiful watercolour flower displays, meticulously detailing the different parts of a flower. These activities not only enhanced their understanding of plant biology but also nurtured their artistic skills.

Geography and History Insights

Geography lessons have taken us on a journey to study volcanoes, where the pupils learned about their formation and impact on the environment. In history, we traveled back in time to ancient Greece. The children explored Greek culture, history, and mythology, gaining a deeper appreciation for this influential civilisation.

A Spectacular Production

The highlight of the term was undoubtedly the wonderful school’s performing arts production of The Jungle Book. The children put in an incredible amount of effort, learning songs and rehearsing their lines. Their hard work culminated in a spectacular performance in a real theatre, where they delighted the audience with their singing and acting talents. This experience not only boosted their confidence but also provided them with a sense of accomplishment and joy.

Next term

As we conclude this term, we can look back with pride on the achievements and growth of our Year 3 students. They have shown resilience, creativity, and a strong sense of community. We are grateful for the support of parents and guardians, which has been instrumental in making this term a success. As we head into the next term, we are excited to continue building on these experiences and look forward to more learning adventures. Thank you for your continued support, and we wish everyone a restful and enjoyable break.
