Illness in school
What should I do if my child is ill?
- Please telephone the school on 01993 831793 before 09.00 if your child is going to be absent due to illness.
- To avoid the spread of infection within school, children absent because of a tummy bug may not, following guidance from the Area Health Authority, return to school until a full 48 hours has elapsed since the last bout of vomiting or diarrhoea. Children who become ill in school are referred to Mrs Douglas, and parents are contacted immediately when necessary.
Medical Conditions and Medication
All staff are first-aid trained. It is important that you keep the school fully informed of any condition, serious or otherwise that your child may be experiencing. The School sends out a Pupil Information Form at the beginning of each academic year via Parentmail. Please complete and return this form when requested. Any subsequent changes should be communicated to the School Office in writing via an email to info@windrushvalleyschool.co.uk It is important that the school is made aware of those children with a medical condition so that appropriate care can be provided when necessary.
The school will administer medication on your behalf, on request. All requests must be in writing on the medication form (available from the school office, and to download below). Children may not routinely carry over-the-counter medication for self-administration. However, children requiring medication for long term conditions such as diabetes or asthma are encouraged to keep their medication either with them or in the designated medical cabinet or fridge as specified in their Individual Medication Plan (IMP).
Children with asthma should be able to manage their condition and carry their inhaler with them at all times. The school will apply sun protection cream provided by parents to younger children and encourage older children to apply it themselves. All staff are provided with guidance by appropriate medical personnel on how to manage children with long term medical conditions.
