A Term of Sporting Success at Windrush Valley Prep School

What a term it’s been! As we pack away the sports equipment for the summer holidays, we can’t help but reflect on all the wonderful sporting moments we’ve shared over the past few months here at Windrush Valley Prep School. From Early Years all the way up to Year 6, our pupils have shown outstanding effort, team spirit, and enthusiasm across a wide range of sporting activities.

For our youngest learners in Early Years, the focus has been on developing the essential physical skills needed for Sports Day – balance, coordination, and determination. The culmination of their hard work was a joyful and action-packed Sports Day event filled with races, games, and big smiles all around. The well-earned ice creams at the end were a perfect way to cool down and celebrate a job well done!

Meanwhile, pupils in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 have had an active and engaging term, with lessons centred around rounders and athletics, alongside plenty of preparation for the much-anticipated summer Sports Day. KS1 pupils worked hard to learn the rules of rounders while also perfecting their running, jumping, and throwing techniques for Sports Day. It’s been wonderful to see their confidence and skills grow each week.

KS2 took things to the next level, participating in game-based rounders sessions that focused on developing striking and batting techniques, tactical thinking, and team fielding strategies. Their competitive spirit was matched only by their encouragement of one another – a testament to the school’s strong sense of sportsmanship.

Another major highlight this term was the annual swimming gala, held in June. The event brought together all pupils for a fun and friendly competition in the pool. With cheers echoing and splashes flying, each child rose to the occasion, demonstrating not only their swimming skills but also their determination and resilience.

Overall, it’s been a term full of sporting achievement, joyful moments, and personal bests. We’re incredibly proud of the effort every child has put into their PE and games sessions this term. Whether on the track, in the field, or in the pool, Windrush Valley Prep School pupils have truly shone.

School Games Gold Mark Award

To top things off, the school was awarded School Games Gold Mark Award a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.
