Year 6 Leavers’ Trip to Devon – A Memorable Farewell Adventure

As the academic year draws to a close, there was a bittersweet air surrounding one of the final milestone moments for some of our Year 6 leavers at Windrush Valley Prep School – their end-of-year residential trip to Devon. It was a chance to celebrate the journey they’ve taken through our school, and to create lasting memories before they move on to the next exciting chapter at their chosen secondary schools.

This year’s trip was nothing short of exceptional. Pupils enjoyed a taste of independence while staying in deluxe accommodation, where they embraced the responsibilities of self-catering. From planning meals to tidying up after dinner, the group demonstrated maturity and teamwork, and more than a few mentioned how grown-up they felt managing things for themselves!

The week was packed with a wide range of exciting activities and day trips. A particular highlight was their visit to Paignton Zoo, where the children enjoyed learning about exotic animals and conservation. They also explored the beautiful Torbay area and spent time in Dartmouth, including a scenic riverboat ride along the River Dart – an experience that combined fun with a wonderful opportunity to see the local landscape from a different perspective.

Adventure was certainly in the air, with pupils trying their hand at archery, and for those brave enough, tackling the high ropes course at Mojo Active. One pupil, who had bravely chosen to come on the trip despite having broken their arm beforehand, joined in wherever possible—showing great spirit and determination throughout.

Throughout the trip, there was laughter, challenge, learning, and most importantly, friendship. This experience gave our Year 6 leavers a chance to reflect on their time at Windrush Valley Prep School while bonding one final time as a group before parting ways.

We are incredibly proud of how they conducted themselves throughout the trip – with maturity, kindness, and the spirit of adventure. This trip was a wonderful send-off for a special group of pupils, and we know they will carry these memories – and the values they’ve learned here into their futures.

From all of us at Windrush Valley Prep School, we wish them every success as they take their next steps into secondary education.
