Windrush Valley Prep School Raises £1,000 for Dogs for Good
Windrush Valley Prep School was thrilled to welcome some very special visitors for a heartwarming school assembly- Joli, a beautiful fox red Labrador, her foster carer Emma Price, and Ed Bracher, CEO of the national charity Dogs for Good.
Joli is no ordinary puppy. She’s currently preparing to begin her journey of training to become an assistance dog with Dogs for Good – a charity that transforms lives by creating partnerships between people living with disabilities and highly trained dogs. This assembly marked a celebration of both Joli’s exciting next chapter and the school’s incredible fundraising achievement.
Fund Raising
Over the term, Windrush Valley Prep School pupils worked together on a variety of fun and creative initiatives to raise an impressive £1,000 – enough to sponsor a puppy’s future training. Fundraising activities included a joyful Mufti Day, where children wore their own clothes and decorated dog masks, as well as selling handmade friendship bracelets and running delicious cake sales. It was a real whole-school effort, showcasing the children’s compassion, creativity, and community spirit.
During the assembly, Ed Bracher spoke to the children about the important work Dogs for Good carries out across the UK, helping children and adults with a range of disabilities lead more independent lives. The pupils listened attentively and were eager to learn about how their support would help a puppy grow up to become a life-changing companion.
Perhaps the highlight of the day came after the assembly, when the children had the opportunity to meet and cuddle Joli. Her calm nature and wagging tail brought huge smiles to everyone’s faces, making the connection to the cause even more personal and memorable.
Ed Bracher praised the pupils and staff for their generosity, saying:
“Dogs for Good relies entirely on the generosity of donors to support our life-changing work. We’re absolutely delighted that the children of Windrush Valley Prep School have raised an amazing £1,000 to sponsor a puppy. It will go a long way to helping us support and train a dog that will have a huge impact on someone’s life, helping connect them with the world and making life more possible. It’s an amazing effort and we’re so grateful.”
This event highlighted not only the school’s commitment to charitable causes but also the incredible empathy and initiative of its pupils. Well done to everyone involved!
