Flu Pandemic: School Action Plan

 
The purpose of this plan is to establish the procedures that will be followed in the event of an outbreak of influenza. This plan has been written with due regard to advice from the Department for Children and Families (DfCF).
 
The school is regularly up-dated on the current situation via the ‘Swine Flu Daily Briefing for Oxfordshire’ drawn from the daily meeting of the Oxfordshire Health Emergency Planning Group (OHEPG). This is published on the school’s website. The following guidance applies to both adults and children.
 
Action to prevent the spread of infection
The school will continue to ensure that sound hygiene practice is followed throughout the school, including
·         ensuring that sufficient tissues etc are available in all classes
·         that all children are taught good hygiene practice to minimise the spread of infection
·         all hard surfaces are routinely cleaned with an anti-bacterial agent
·         older children are given sensible advice in a calm and sensible manner that
 
Anyone who has been in contact with a known or suspected case of influenza should, with appropriate advice from their GP,
·         advise the school immediately
·         remain at home for a period of not less than 7 days
·         continue to practice sensible hygiene precautions
 
Action in the event of infection
Anyone who becomes ill at home with flu-like symptoms should, with appropriate advice from their GP,
·         advise the school immediately
·         remain at home for a period of not less than 7 days
·         continue to practice sensible hygiene precautions
 
Staff or children who become ill in school with flu-like symptoms will be sent home for confirmation from their GP. If confirmed the school
·         will act on the advice from the OHEPG
·         may issue a 7 day school closure notice
 
In the event of closure for a period longer than 7 days the school will seek to continue some lessons for older children via the school’s website.
